Yes, Aubusson rugs are flat-woven  on horizontal looms totally by hand.  Weavers follow the same sized cartoons to position each of the colors.  

Aubusson tapestries are using the same techniques for weaving but  the yarns for tapestries are much more finer than those used for Aubusson rugs. and they contain more colors of course. So, it's  very time-consuming.

Aubusson pillows are using the same techniques for weaving and they can use either aubusson yarns or tapestry yarns or a blend for different designs.
