French aubusson rugs enjoy a long and
splendid history. Its elegance and majesty
are admired by the whole world. However,
there are not much production in the famous
French town, Aubussons today are just like French wine.
These aubusson rugs were brought into China
by a few American importers some twenty
years ago. The area to be exact is Dezhou
of Shandong Province of China which has
grown into the largest aubusson rug base in
China, or even in the whole world. Experts
say that nearly 80% of the aubusson rugs
sold in the world today come from Dezhou of
China. Maybe there is a bit of exaggeration
but it reveals a fact that it is really the
largest base for the beautiful aubusson
rugs.
There really are other countries that make
aubusson rugs today such as India. But
importers come to China to buy aubusson rugs
instead of India because there are very
distinctive differences between aubusson
pieces made in India and those made in
France centuries ago while China has
mastered exactly the soul of aubusson rugs
and contributes to its new creations of
patterns.
